How to Use Overtime Categories in Shift Calendar RUIX
Tracking overtime is easier when your records are organized clearly.
In Shift Calendar RUIX, the Overtime Categories feature helps you label different types of overtime, so your records are easier to understand later. Instead of saving all overtime hours under one general type, you can organize them into categories such as Normal OT, Public Holiday OT, Rest Day OT, and Night OT.
This is especially useful for shift workers, day workers, and anyone who wants a clearer overtime record throughout the year.
Why Overtime Categories Matter
Not all overtime is the same.
Some overtime hours happen on normal workdays. Some happen on public holidays. Others may happen during rest days or night shifts. When all of these are mixed together, it becomes harder to review your work pattern properly.
That is why Shift Calendar RUIX includes Overtime Categories.
With categories, you can:
organize overtime records more clearly
separate different overtime types
review overtime with better structure
make overtime summaries easier to understand
keep your records neat for long-term use
Where to Find Overtime Categories
To view Overtime Categories:
Open Shift Calendar RUIX
Go to the Settings page
Tap Manage Categories
Open Overtime Categories
Inside this section, you will see the available overtime category options.
Default Overtime Categories
Shift Calendar RUIX includes 4 default overtime categories:
Night OT
Normal OT
Public Holiday OT
Rest Day OT
These built-in categories help most users start quickly without needing extra setup.
They are useful because many workers already track overtime based on these common work situations.
For example:
Normal OT for overtime after regular working hours
Public Holiday OT for overtime worked on official holidays
Rest Day OT for overtime worked during rest days
Night OT for overtime worked during late or overnight hours
How to Use Overtime Categories When Recording Overtime
When adding overtime inside the Records section, you can choose an overtime category before saving the entry.
This helps each overtime record stay properly labeled.
For example, if you worked 5 extra hours on a public holiday, you can record the hours and choose Public Holiday OT. If you worked extra hours during a normal weekday shift, you can choose Normal OT instead.
This makes your overtime records easier to read later inside your summary pages.
Add Custom Overtime Categories
In addition to the default options, Shift Calendar RUIX also allows you to create your own overtime categories.
Inside the Overtime Categories page, there is an Add Custom Category section.
Here, you can type a new category name, such as:
Extra OT
Special Shift OT
Weekend OT
Emergency OT
Then tap Add.
This gives you more flexibility if your workplace uses different overtime types or if you prefer your own naming system.
Why Custom Categories Are Helpful
Different users work in different industries.
Some workplaces use overtime labels that are different from the standard ones. By adding custom categories, you can make the app fit your own work routine more closely.
Custom overtime categories are useful for:
hospital staff
factory workers
security staff
transport workers
freelancers with extra-hour tracking
anyone with unique overtime labels
